Ford Motor Co. on Friday said U.S. sales declined 11.6 percent in August, compared with a year-ago period boosted by employee-pricing discounts.
Total August Ford Motor Company sales fell to 255,112 units from 288,429 last year. Overall, car sales rose 8.5 percent for the month to 97,801 units from 90,126 units last year, but truck sales fell 20.7 percent to 157,311 units from 198,303 in August 2005.Â
Excluding heavy trucks, total Ford Motor Co. and total Ford brand sales fell 11.6 percent during the month, and total Ford Motor Co. truck sales slipped 20.8 percent while those of Ford light trucks slid 20.5 percent.
Ford posted August sales of the Mustang at 17,933 units, up 64 percent year-over-year and marking the highest Mustang sales in August since 1979, the first year of the Fox body Ford Mustang.
