2009 Ford Shelby GT500KRFord and Shelby are celebrating their 40th anniversary in the guise of the Shelby GT500KR. This new Mustang – which was displayed at the 2008 New York Auto Show is big, bold, and packs 540 horsepower.

Only a limited number of these special cars were to be made – which is something that Shelby always stands by. Except this time they are changing the rules a bit.

Both Ford and Shelby have chosen to produce an extra 746 cars for the 2009 model year. 541 of the GT500KR’s will be shipped over to our shores here in the U.S. giving us a grand total of 1,571 cars (this is the exact amount of the production run from when the original KR was released). I don’t know if it was nostalgia or the excitement of the day – but we are happy with the decision that they made.
