It’s been a long three decades since the original Mach 1 Mustang roamed the streets, but ask anyone who’s ever seen this car and they’ll describe it as if it were sitting right in front of them. For 2003, the Ford Mustang Mach 1 is in action, this time as part of Ford’s “Living Legends” lineup. The idea is simple: take some of the most memorable Ford vehicles of the past and recreate them for modern-day consumption. Maintain the style and performance that made each particular model a legend, but do it in a way that not only pays homage to the original but improves upon it as well.

On Friday Ford announced their ‘Way Foward’ plan in an effort to bolster sluggish sales amid high gas prices and growing foreign competition. Ford president Mark Fields was quoted as saying “We added additional Mustang derivatives to our near-term product plans – to ensure we have at least one new Mustang every year. One of those will be the return of the Bullitt, and it’s coming in 2008.”

While the top choice for drivers ages 16 to 25 is a Ford Mustang, 34 percent would roll onto campus with a Honda Civic, the top selection among parents at 43 percent.

They claim to produce the “Most powerful production Mustangs”, kinda hard to argue with that - considering they’re the only “production” Mustang to come with a forged engine with a pair or turbo’s attached.
